Dronamics, the world's first cargo drone airline with a license to operate in Europe, has received both IATA and ICAO designator codes. Being the first cargo drone airline to secure these codes, Dronamics now enjoys recognition on par with other international airlines. Dronamics is the world's first cargo drone airline with a license to operate in Europe.
It has been officially assigned both IATA and ICAO designator codes. Securing ICAO codes strengthens Dronamics' presence in the global aviation community.
1. IATA Code ”OY" allows Dronamics to establish flight numbers and facilitates commercial interline agreements with other IATA carriers.
2. IATA Accounting Prefix "651" enables Dronamics to issue Air Waybills (AWBs) and uplift cargo within its network.
3. ICAO Telephony Call Sign is "Black Swan”and 3-letter Airline Designator is “DXE". These codes are widely used by pilots and air traffic controllers for flight planning and communication.
Here is what Svilen Rangelov, co-Founder and CEO of Dronamics had to say on this occasion - “Becoming the first cargo drone airline with both IATA and ICAO designator codes is a testament to Dronamics' pioneering spirit and our vision for faster, cheaper and green air cargo for everyone, everywhere. This recognition by the leading aviation community reinforces our position on the international aviation map.”
Being the first to achieve such milestones is never an easy task, but at the same time it is highly rewarding too. Dronamics is paving the way for its peers and expediting the growth of drone cargo / delivery industry at a greater pace. Staying tuned for more exciting news from them.
If you want to learn more about these IATA and ICAO codes and what their relevance, then do read on.
1. IATA Designator Code:
The IATA designator code, also known as the IATA airline code or simply IATA code, is a two-letter code assigned to each airline by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This code is used to uniquely identify airlines during various airline-related operations, such as flight booking, ticketing, baggage handling, and reservation systems.
For example:
- Air France: AF
- Lufthansa: LH
- Dronamics: OY
2. Airline Accounting Prefix:
The Airline Accounting Prefix (also known as the Airline Prefix Code) is a three-digit numeric code assigned to each airline by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This code is used for financial and accounting purposes within the airline industry. The Airline Accounting Prefix is used in financial transactions, including ticketing, billing, revenue accounting, and settlement between airlines and other entities involved in the airline industry, such as travel agents, global distribution systems (GDS), and airline clearinghouses.
For example:
- Lufthansa may have an accounting prefix of 220.
- Air France may have an accounting prefix of 001.
- Dronamics accounting prefix of 651.
3. The ICAO Designator Code:
It also known as the ICAO airline code or ICAO code, is a four-letter alphanumeric code assigned to each airline by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Unlike the IATA designator code, which is a two-letter code used for operational purposes, the ICAO code is primarily used for air traffic control and airline operations.
Unlike the IATA code, the ICAO code uses upto four letters, and it can include letters and numbers.
For Example:
- Lufthansa: DLH
- Air France: AFR
- Dronamics: DXE
4. The ICAO telephony call sign:
It is a unique designator assigned to each airline by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It is used for voice communication purposes during radio transmissions and air traffic control operations. The telephony call sign typically consists of a combination of letters and numbers and is used by pilots, air traffic controllers, and ground personnel to identify specific airlines during communications.
For example:
- Lufthansa: LUFTHANSA
- Air France: AIRFRANS
- Dronamics: BLACK SWAN
These call signs are used to ensure clear and unambiguous communication between the aircraft and air traffic control, especially during takeoff, landing, and other critical phases of flight. The ICAO telephony call sign is separate from the ICAO airline designator code, which is a three-letter alphanumeric code used for flight planning, air traffic management, and other operational purposes.
